They do have the strangest little fiestas in Spain. Yesterday was National Police Day. In Puerto de la Cruz, most of the town’s finest lined up alongside the town hall and applauded a procession of police vehicles including cars, riot vans, what looked like a mounted cannon and a motor launch.
Now if I was a master criminal, I know when I’d be planning my next major heist.

To be fair, there isn’t that much crime here, so there wasn’t that much chance of hordes of suspicious, stripy-jumper clad blokes with bags emblazoned with swag, taking to the streets whilst Puerto’s boys in blue enjoyed themselves. And, in fact, with such a massive police presence in town, the normally chaotic parking was the most orderly I’ve ever seen it.
