Where did all this rain come from?

Where did all this rain come from?

It was the middle of July and the water pummelled our heads with such force it was like being in the worst monsoon you could possibly imagine. This is what a lot of people seem to think the north of Tenerife is like most of the time, but the truth was a second beforehand Liam and I had been in scorching sunshine, so what happened?

It was our own fault, we’d swam too close to the island in the centre of the lake at Lago Martiánez in Puerto de la Cruz just as the fountain was turned on. Gallons of water was pumped twenty feet into the air to fall back to earth on the two unsuspecting swimmers underneath i.e. us.

I can’t tell you how intense it was; the water rained down on us so hard that we couldn’t open our eyes and had to push on blindly through an almost impenetrable curtain of water until finally we reached its edge and emerged battered and breathless into the sunshine again…it was great fun.
