[...] So why then are the trousers here so ridiculously long? Jack (tall for a Tinerfeño, short for a Brit and average for a Scot) can’t get trousers here for love nor money. Every purchase results in either a trip to the dry cleaners to have a yard or so loped off, or turn-ups to the knee. I on the other hand, who in the UK could only buy trousers that either had a large hem which I could take down, or, God help me, as a last resort had to buy from the M & S ‘tall’ range, bought a pair of trousers in the sales at Zara in La Villa last week that are actually slightly too long for me. Someone should tell the manufacturers of clothing destined for the Canary Islands that their target market is ‘below average height’. I know that these things are taken into consideration in the world of clothing manufacture because large bosoms and protruding bottoms are both accommodated in the women’s department and Jack assures me that a lack of dance floor (ie no Ballroom) is evident in the gent’s department.
I'm glad I wasn't tempted then by the cachapas. I was nearly lured by the fact that they were double the price (the princely sum of €3.80 each); I had visions of big, juicy, fried Venezuelan pancakes. I would have been gutted!

They usually say that it's "lloviendo palos" here (and pitchforks, I think), so maybe cabers would be a good way of indicating a particularly heavy chaparon? :) Oh dear, Marge seriously needs to have a look outside of her comfort zone. Even my mother (soon to be 84) knows what arepas are and likes them. We've gone on treks to find them specially too. Cachapas, on the other hand, have the texture of car seat covers, if you ask me. Wise choice.

Good point. The wayward parcel eventually turned up on the 10th January (a month after it had been posted); however, a giveaway stamp on the side showed that it had actually arrived in the Correos office three days earlier. Not as bad as I thought and very good VFM at £36 postage I thought!!

I'm sure if they ever introduced such a complicated ticketing system in the UK, this would cause even more chaos than with the Canarians.

Did you ever receive your parcel of Christmas cheer?
