Today, we had the first decent rainfall since May. It was a welcome drink for the plants and the earth. I love the first rain at the end of the summer; the sound of the drops on the leaves and the smell; that smell of hot, damp dust which I always associate with exotic climes. Suddenly everything perks up and looks shiny and new. Even though it was raining there were blue patches in the sky and within half an hour the sun was out again; A perfect formula for plants, which is why our garden is starting to resemble a Malaysian jungle. The bougainvillea is sending thorny branches across the lawn and the hibiscus hedge is as uneven as a mountain range. I was thinking about trimming them today as well, but with the rain it’s a bit wet now.
Hey, I think I’m getting the hang of this mañana culture business.
